Privacy Policy for Kombucha Lab

March Hare Machinations ("we," "us," or "our") built the Kombucha Lab app ("the App") as a tool for home kombucha brewers to track their brews, recipes, and SCOBY hotels. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

Information We Collect

Brewing Data You Create

The App stores only the data you enter related to your kombucha brewing activities, including:

Batch names, recipes, and brewing configurations
pH readings, temperature readings, and tasting notes
SCOBY hotel names, locations (e.g., "Kitchen counter"), and maintenance records
Photos you take of your brews and SCOBYs
Ratings and notes about your batches

App Preferences

The App stores your preferences, such as your preferred unit system (US/metric), default bottle size, notification settings, and photo quality settings.

Purchase Information

If you purchase Kombucha Lab Pro or leave a tip, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment information, Apple ID, or billing details.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect any personal identifying information. Specifically, we do not collect:

Your name, email address, or phone number
Your physical location or GPS data
Device identifiers or advertising IDs
Usage analytics or behavioral data
Any information from other apps on your device

Data Storage

All of your brewing data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, within the App's private sandbox. Photos are stored as separate files on your device's local storage.

iCloud Sync

If you are signed into iCloud on your device, the App may sync your brewing data across your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit service. This sync is:

Automatic if you are signed into iCloud
Private - your data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is not accessible to us or any third party
Controlled by Apple - data in transit is encrypted and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy

Your app preferences (unit system, default bottle size, photo quality) may also sync across your devices via iCloud Key-Value Store.

If you do not wish to sync your data, you can sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Kombucha Lab in your device's Settings.

Notifications

The App uses local notifications to remind you about scheduled brewing actions (e.g., taste tests, feeding your SCOBY hotel). Notifications are:

Optional - you choose whether to enable them in the App's settings
Local only - generated on your device, not sent from a server
Configurable - you control the lead time for reminders

The App registers for silent remote notifications solely to receive iCloud sync updates from Apple's servers. These do not contain any user-facing content.

Third-Party Services

The App does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or data collection services. The only external services used are:

Apple CloudKit - for optional iCloud data sync
Apple StoreKit - for in-app purchase processing

Both are operated by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policies.

Data Deletion

You can delete all of your data at any time from the App's Settings screen. This permanently removes all batches, recipes, SCOBY hotels, photos, readings, and notes from your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, the deletion will also propagate to your other devices.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since the App collects no personal information, it is suitable for users of all ages.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
